Planning to Travel Abroad?

From 17 May international travel will be permitted to a limited number of countries and in some cases proof of Covid-19 vaccination will be required. The mechanism for proving your vaccine status is through the NHS app. For those who cannot access the NHS app you can request written proof that you have received your Covid-19 vaccination by contacting the NHS on 119. Please do not contact your GP practice.

Please note, we will be closed on Monday 31st May for the Bank Holiday. Please ensure you order your medication and collect your prescriptions in plenty of time.

Thank you!

We are moving to a new system for booking COVID vaccinations. You will receive a text message inviting you to book your own appointment at a time convenient to you.

Because of this it is now more important than ever that we hold an up to date mobile number for you as we invite you to book for your COVID vaccination. Using the link below will allow you to consent to receiving text messages from us and allow you to update us of any contact detail changes.

Dr Reay to retire on 31st May...

After over 30 years working at West Ayton and Snainton surgeries it is time for me to retire. I joined the practice on completion of my GP training in York and feel lucky to have lived and worked in such a beautiful area and worked with a supportive team dedicated to delivering high quality healthcare to our patients over all these years.

I am also grateful for the support of the community and patients, many of whom I have got to know as individuals as well as patients. Their frequent appreciative words and acts of kindness have meant a lot to me in what is not always an easy job. I have greatly valued the continuity of care that we have strived to achieve and am pleased that the practice continues to recognise its importance.

We have some excellent new recruits at the practice (doctors, nurses and support staff) to add to those who, like me, have been there many years. I know that I am leaving the practice in capable hands.

I am sad that the Covid pandemic has so disrupted our way of working that I will not see many patients in person before I go. You will be in my thoughts and there will be better times ahead.

Once I am gone, patients used to asking for me should, in preference, ask for Dr Cahir Doherty or Dr Simon Arch. Cahir and Simon joined the practice as final year trainees in 2019 and we were so impressed with them that we persuaded them to continue working with us when they completed their training last year. They both live in the area and we hope will be part of the practice for many years to come.

West Ayton

The dispensary is open on weekdays between 08:30 and 18:30.

For patients on regular treatment the doctor may allow monthly repeat prescriptions. A list of medication that you can order without a consultation will be printed for you each time you collect any medication or prescription. If the date at the bottom of this list has passed you should make an appointment before ordering any more medication.

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered:

  • by ringing (01723) 864553 stating your name, address and the names of the medicines required. Please note you can leave your request on the answerphone 24 hours a day.
  • by ticking the boxes on your repeat prescription list and handing it in to Ayton or Seamer surgery.
  • For non-dispensing patients please specify if you will collect your prescription from the surgery or which pharmacist you would like your prescription sending to.
  • Online – via the link at the top of this page.

To use the online facility you will need to request a pin number and password from the surgery. If you already use this system for booking appointments online you use the same username and password.

Please allow a MINIUM OF 3 FULL WORKING DAYS before collection either from the Surgery or by prior arrangement to go to the Seamer Stores (delivery at 15:00 each weekday) or Seamer Surgery (Monday, Wednesday and Friday only).

Please note: We would prefer patients to collect their medication during the week when the dispensary is open. Saturdays are only for patients who cannot get there during the week.

Please take particular care not to run out of tablets at the weekend or holiday time, by ringing well in advance.

Policy about quantities

With a small number of exceptions, such as contraception & hormone replacement therapy, we prescribe ongoing medication in 28 day amounts, which has been shown to reduce wastage for the NHS (this is common practice). Patients who are not exempt from prescription charges should consider purchasing a pre-payment certificate if they are on 2 or more regular prescriptions.

Free Delivery Service

If you normally have your medication dispensed by the surgery we can deliver it to you free of charge. Medication will need to be ordered at least 2 days in advance and colostomy products and dressings will need to be ordered 3 days in advance in order to take advantage of this service.
The delivery day for Snainton prescriptions is Thursday afternoon.

The delivery day for West Ayton prescriptions is Wednesday afternoon.

Please ask at the dispensary for more details.

What to do if you are unsure about anything
