If you live more than a mile from a chemist
you will (unless you specifically ask not to be) be registered
as a dispensing patient. This means that our dispensary can
supply you with prescription medicines, rather than having to
take a written prescription to the chemist to be dispensed.
If you live less than a mile from a chemist
(eg in Thornton-le-Dale, Ayton or most of Crossgates) you will be
given a written prescription to be dispensed by a chemist. In
certain special circumstances (eg if you are housebound and
have difficulty getting to a chemist) you can apply to the
health authority to become a dispensing patient.
Our dispensaries cannot sell you items that you
would normally buy across the counter at a chemist. However if
you are eligible for free prescriptions and the item is also
available on prescription (eg paracetamol for children) you
may ask us to supply it.
All dispensing patients may ask for a written prescription to
be taken to the chemist if they wish. This may be advisable,
for example, if (though it rarely happens) we are out of stock
of an item that you need urgently. However if you are
considering doing this on a regular basis please read our
information sheet.

and ordering medication please follow the links below to the
individual dispensaries.
